Environmental Composer John Luther Adams was awarded the prestigious Heinz Award from the Heinz Family Foundation in 2011 “for his musical compositions that invite us to hear the whole world as music.”

Adams’s latest recording, Four Thousand Holes, has received widespread critical acclaim. The Farthest Place, the first critical study of Adams’s music is forthcoming from University Press of New England. Adams’s epic percussion work Strange and Sacred Noise is the subject of a new feature-length film by Leonard Kamerling.   Currently Adams is composing a large-scale work for the Seattle Symphony and writing his third book.
