Lance A. Twitchell carries the Tlingit names X̱’unei & Du Aaní Kawdinook, and the Haida name Ḵ’eijáakw. He is from the Tlingit, Haida, and Yup’ik native nations, and speaks & studies the Tlingit language. He has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in American Indian Studies from the University of Minnesota.
X̱’unei is a multimedia artist in poetry, fiction, drama, non-fiction, Northwest Coast Native design, and traditional & contemporary music. His grandfather, Silas Dennis, Senior, was his first teacher, and his grandmother, Dorothy Dennis, lives in Skagway, Alaska, where Lance was born.
He is an Assistant Professor of Alaska Native Languages at the University of Alaska Southeast, and lives in Juneau with his wife, son, and daughter.
